Learning to Love Your Imperfections

We all have imperfections, be it on the inside or out, and living in a world that always strives for perfection makes it hard to accept and appreciate them.

Hey guys!! How are you? I hope this post finds you well.

From the title of this post, you can already tell what we’re going to talk about today: Imperfections.

We all have imperfections, be it on the inside or out, and living in a world that always strives for perfection makes it hard to accept and appreciate them.

Work on it or accept it…

For the past few years, I’ve been learning to love my imperfections and live with them as they are. Of course, I will try and work on the ones that I can, but the unchangeable ones receive all the love I can give.

For example, I can be highly irritable. The smallest things irritate me, from sounds to a button that’s out of place and chipped nail polish. At times, I can’t help but get irritated, but after identifying such a trait as one that I can work on, I’ve been slowly but surely working on being a little more easy-going and open to the little things that annoy me. I have good days and really, really bad days, but it’s important that I’m trying and taking one step at a time.

This is an example of a flaw that I can work on.

One flaw that I can’t work on however, is my stretchmarks. I’ve had stretchmarks for the LONGEST time! From the time I hit puberty, they came and never left. I developed at an extremely fast rate, so you can imagine how they erupted! Like a volcano, I tell you. In my adolescent years, I’d try all types of remedies to get rid of them and wouldn’t wear certain swimming costumes because I wanted to hide them. Man, I was so insecure.

Turn that ‘negative’ into a positive!

As I grew and became more secure in myself, I realised that these stretch marks weren’t going anywhere. They may fade, darken or even increase in number, but that doesn’t really faze me anymore. I’ve learnt how to accept them as they are and continue living my life as I should…

As citizens of this world that’s so hellbent on being perfect, we must realise that we don’t need to strive for perfection. What we must strive for is being better people. People who love, people who encourage others, people who make positive contributions to society and ultimately, people who make the world a better place.

I believe that our imperfections are what make us strive to be better. My irritability makes me strive to be more patient and easy-going. My stretch marks make me accept my body as it is, and appreciate the growth and stages of life I’ve gone through. Someone’s scars may remind them of how they’re a survivor and have gotten through the most harrowing of situations. Another’s narcissism may make them realise that they’re not the only person in the world, and could evoke more care for others in them.

Understand the intricacies…

Ultimately, what I’m trying to say is that your imperfections are there for a reason. Don’t cast them into the trenches and throw hurtful words their way. Sit down with them (possibly over a cup of tea or a glass of wine), and understand who and what they are. Analyse their intricacies and you’ll be amazed at what you find!

This is how you learn to love your imperfections. It’s as simple as that. You just have to put in the work…

Are you working on loving your imperfections? What’s one thing that’s made a difference in your journey to accepting them? Let me know in the comments!

I also felt insecure about my stretch marks too. I didn’t understand the purpose of them. Just thought that life was playing a cruel joke on me. 🤣but hey, we move regardless.
I at least understood that it was what came with growth.

I used to be one to assume that everything was a joke. I grew up alone so didn’t really have the best human relations skills so my best bet in public was to be humorous. But there was an issue… Sometimes a joke may cross the line and the most sensitive line is insecurity. I haven’t cared about any part of me or felt insecure about anything but I’ve also so learnt to understand people’s insecurities and not pick on them but rather motivate them and help them in the best way I can. A loved one taught me this about a year ago and I felt like sharing this for those who are like me. ‼️ And ermmm #tigerstripesforlife I guess😹😹😹

I’ve always been insure about my body. I’d constantly compared myself to everyone I considered ‘perfect’ but lately I’ve been more accepting of myself. I’m learning to love myself and this post had really encouraged me to embrace my flaws. Thanks for reminding me that I’m beautiful, with my flaws.

Comparison is the thief of joy. Know that your unique qualities are what make you, you. You were made to be authentic, not perfect. You were made to be beautiful in your imperfections. You were made to be you. Embrace your uniqueness and it’ll embrace you back. Only then will you fully appreciate who you are, flaws and all. I’m glad that this post has reminded you that you’re beautiful in your perfect imperfections♥️♥️ never forget to tell yourself that you’re beautiful inside and out. Words are powerful✨✨
